A message from RHASS Chairman, John Dykes -

John Dykes

"We look forward to 2010 to welcome friends, old and new, from Commonwealth countries around the world.  You can be assured of a good Scottish welcome to Edinburgh in June 2010.

Our aim as part of the Conference and Tours is to ensure you taste, feel, see and hear all the delights Scotland has to offer.

The Conference, centred in Edinburgh, will bring some excellent speakers who will challenge the boundaries but also invite people and business in their sphere of expertise to promote “Co-operation and Collaboration” in Scotland, the UK, and the rest of the world,

Life is all about the future and we trust our growing group of Next Generation delegates will develop even further.
June/July 2010 will soon arrive, book the dates and look forward to visiting one of the best small countries ,with a wide global reach, in the world.

       Yours aye,
       John Dykes, FRAgS

RASC Conference June/July 2010 – Scholarship Available

This year, the RHASS is involved with hosting the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth (RASC) 24th Commonwealth Agricultural Conference in June/July.  This biennial conference was previously held in Australia, Canada and more recently New Zealand.  The Conference will also take in pre and post conference tours around Scotland.  We are expecting about 200 delegates from across the Commonwealth.  Full details can be downloaded from the RASC website.

One of the RASC’s aims is to promote agriculture to the next generation and have established a network of young people called the Next Generation Delegates (aged 21 to 40yrs) who have their own forum and activities which link in to the main Conference.  The Society is a strong supporter of this initiative, having supported two NG delegates to attend the Conference and Tours in Canada and New Zealand as part of its own objectives to educate young people about farming and the countryside.  The Society has once again agreed to make available a scholarship (worth £500) for a young person to attend the Conference in Edinburgh.

If you are between 21 and 40 years of age, or know someone who is, and have a keen interest in the future of agriculture in Scotland, then we would like to hear from you.
