RHASS To Introduce Technical Innovation Awards
[Re-Launch Of New Implement Scheme]
The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland is re-launching its new implements awards scheme which will now be known as the RHASS Technical Innovation Awards.
The decision to change is a recognition of the technical advances which have taken place in agriculture and other rural industry in recent years and should open up the awards to a wider range of products and services.
“In the past innovation in the agricultural machinery industry was key to improving the performance and output of farm equipment,” said Douglas Fowlie, RHASS Director with responsibility for the awards.
“Although we want to continue encouraging that type of innovation, there have been many other technological advances in the industry, especially in IT. Manufacturers, providers and farm inventors may have been put off entering for the awards as the term ‘new implement” suggested the scheme was limited to farm machinery and equipment.
“We want to embrace a much wider spectrum of products and with this re-launch, our new awards will give more appropriate recognition of technical innovation, not only in an evolving agriculture, but in other rural industry such as horticulture, forestry and estate services.”
As an example, Mr Fowlie instanced the recent Best New Product Competition at AgriScot which was won by Cattle Information Services’urea test with results issued in web-based form.
The RHASS Technical Innovation Awards will be open to both commercially available products or prototypes in development. Entries for the awards will be assessed by panel of judges appointed by the RHASS who will award Certificates of Commendation, Silver Medals and Gold Medals for products of outstanding merit which have already won a silver award.
