Tesco Chairman To Head RHASS In 2008-09

David Reid, Chairman of Tesco plc, is to be the next President of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland.

The Society’s Presidential team, which serves for one year, represents the area where the Royal Highland Show would have been held had it still been moving around Scotland, and for 2008-09 the host area is Aberdeen.

Mr Reid, who has a residence in the area, will take up the post of President this July along with four Vice-Presidents. They are:

Mrs Margaret W Anderson, Philorth House, Fraserburgh
William H Bruce, Logie House, Ellon
John I Forbes, Kinneff, Montrose
Edwin Gillanders, Sunnyside Gardens, Drumoak, Banchory.

The appointments were ratified at the recent annual meeting of the Society.

Re-appointed Honorary Secretary was John Young, Skerrington Mains, Hurlford, Kilmarnock, with William Sanderson, Blackshiels Farm, Pathhead, re-appointed Honorary Treasurer.

RHASS Chairman Allan Murray said: “ We are honoured and delighted that such a high profile figure as David Reid has agreed to become our President. He is a man of stature in business and commerce and we are sure he will have much to contribute to Society affairs, especially at a time when we are embarking on one of our most ambitious projects, the move to Norton Park, Scotland’s National Showground.”
