2008 Lifetime Achievement Award For ANM’s Brian Pack
RHASS Recognises Contribution To Scottish Food Industry
One of Scotland’s leading agri-food businessmen is to receive the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contribution to the Scottish food and drink industry.
Brian Pack, OBE, Chief Executive of ANM Group Ltd since November 1990, is the latest recipient of one of the industry’s most prestigious awards which was instituted in 1998 to recognise excellence, innovation and quality over a span of years by an individual, company or product.
Brian Pack is a highly respected figure in UK agriculture and food and in recent years has driven the growth of ANM Group which currently has sales of over £190 million and a staff of more than 600.
Although the Group’s roots lie in livestock auctioneering, it now has various interests in meat and food processing and sales with its portfolio including Scotch Premier Meat, Highland Country Foods, Charcuterie Continental, Yorkshire Premier Meat and Highland Cuisine.
After working as Senior Agricultural Economist with the North of Scotland College of Agriculture, Brian Pack joined Mackies, the extensive farming and ice cream business, becoming Managing Director in 1984.
Six years later, he joined ANM and since then has played a prominent role in the industry, particularly the red meat sector. He is Chairman of the Board of Governors of the world-renowned Rowett Research Institute, a past director of Grampian Enterprise and is a member of Grampian Food Forum.
A Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies, he was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 1999 for service to agriculture, food and marketing.
Gareth Baird, Chairman of the RHASS Food and Drink Committee, said: “In making this award to Brian we are recognising his major contribution to the whole food chain, from primary production, through to processing, marketing and retailing.
“All along, he has been a champion of closer links within the industry and continues to forge a better understanding of the importance of farm and food production to the national economy and life of Scotland.”
Brian Pack will receive the RHASS Lifetime Achievement Award at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards dinner and presentation at The Mansfield Traquair, Edinburgh, on Thursday May 8.
Previous recipients of the award include individuals Gordon Baxter of Baxters of Fochabers, Ian Galloway of Scotbeef, Colin Warden of Castle MacLellan Foods, Stanley Bernard of Sco-Fro, Claire Macdonald, the product Walkers Shortbread and the companies Tunnock, Gordon & MacPhail and A McClelland & Son.
