Lord Smith Of Kelvin To Head RHASS In 2010-11
Presidential Team From The Borders

Lord Smith of Kelvin is to be the next President of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland.

The Society’s Presidential team, which serves for one year, represents the area where the Royal Highland Show would have been held had it still been moving around Scotland, and for 2010-11 the host area is the Borders.

Lord Smith, a former Governor of the BBC and currently Chairman of Scottish & Southern Energy and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games organising company, will take up the post of President this July along with four Vice-Presidents. They are:

Joe Scott-Plummer DL
David  P Sturrock
Robin J Forrest OBE DL FRAgS
John Campbell OBE FRAgS

The appointments were ratified at the recent annual meeting of the Society.

Re-appointed Honorary Secretary was John Young ARAgS, with Allan Murray ARAgS, appointed Honorary Treasurer.

In addition to 32 elected Ordinary Directors who serve for a four year term, eight extraordinary directors have been appointed for 2010-11 to represent the Society’s electoral areas.

Lothian -  Robert  J H Barr
Perth – David  J McKerrow
Stirling – Alexander Galbraith
Strathclyde -  Keith Campbell

The Royal Highland Show, which has been held at the permanent site of Ingliston, Edinburgh, since 1960 was last staged in the Borders at Kelso in 1952. This year’s show, the 170th and the 50th to be held at Ingliston, takes place on June 24-27.
