2010 ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOW IS KEY CAREER DESTINATION

The Royal Highland Show will this year be offering the opportunity for young people to find out more about the variety of career opportunities available within the Scottish farming, food and drink and allied industries.

Today in Scotland, these industries provide employment for more than 400,000 people, are worth more than £10billion per year and account for 27% of Scotland’s exports.

The Royal Highland Show initiative, entitled “Discover Careers...from farm to fork” is run by the RHASS President, Sir Garth Morrison and his team.

With the help of young people aged 16-25 three “career pathways” around the Showground are being devised. By following these pathways, those interested in careers will visit a whole variety of stands and displays at the Show, speak to staff and get the opportunity to read story boards – all of which can teach them more about the opportunities that are open to them.

Speaking of the pathways, Sir Garth Morrison said:

“We wish to encourage young people to visit the Royal Highland Show to follow the pathways and see all this for themselves.

“In particular, groups from schools and colleges which make arrangements beforehand and let us know, will have free entry to the show – quite a saving.  Young people under 16 will all get free entry, even if not in a prearranged group.

“At a time when many able young people are worried about the prospects before them, this may be just the thing to give them a lift. We all look forward to welcoming young people to the Show for a career boost.”
If you wish to arrange to visit in a group, staff would be happy to meet you and explain a little more about the “Discover careers” initiative. Please contact us on rhass@sceneandherdpr.co.uk to arrange a time or find out more.
