Roy Watherston Memorial TrustRoy Watherston Memorial Trust scholars are candidates who have a genuine and keen interest in furthering their career within Scottish agriculture.
The Trust was established to commemorate the life, work and achievement of the late Roy Watherston, Crichton Mains, Ford, Midlothian, who was an outstanding farmer and breeder of Shorthorns, and who had been interested in the practical education of young people.
The Trustees represent the Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society, the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, the Scottish Agricultural College, the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs and the Watherston family.

The Trust is offering a unique opportunity to participate in this important Conference to a young person, who has a sound practical basis in agriculture, in some related industry or the countryside upon which to build using this experience, and who on their return will be able to use this experience in a practical way. The successful candidate will be asked to make a contribution of £250.00 towards the costs of the trip and will also have the option to attend the pre and/or conference tours.

Those selected for short listing must be available for interview on 12 April 2010.

Conditions of Award
Those wishing to be considered will be expected to meet the following criteria and conditions:-
1. Applicants who will be resident in Scotland should be under the age of 30 years on 1st January 2010 but in exceptional circumstances the Trustees may consider older applicants.
2. The successful candidate will be expected to attend all Conference Sessions, and will also have the option to attend the pre and/or post conference tours.
3. The successful candidate will be asked to make a contribution of £250.00 towards the costs of the trip.
4. The successful candidate will submit to the Trust, within four weeks of his/her return, a written report of approximately 1500 words and in due course copies of conference papers issued.
5. The successful candidate will arrange, in consultation with The Roy Watherston Memorial Trust, his/her own travel, full insurance cover, including sickness and accident and will indemnify The Royal Watherston Memorial Trust against any claims arising from the award.
N.B. The Trust acknowledges the support of The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland in securing a place at the Conference for the successful candidate.
